What is Peers?
- The PEERS® program is a group program for teens and young adults who are interested in learning skills to make and keep friends, develop dating skills and handle conflict
- At the end of the 16-week program, participants will demonstrate several new skills that will last them a lifetime and can be used in everyday life settings
- Each lesson includes specific instruction, video models, perspective-taking questions and behavioral rehearsal
- The internationally-claimed PEERS® program is developed by UCLA and is the first evidence-based group treatment program for young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder as well as other developmental disorders and social challenges
- The PEERS® program includes two sessions per week (1 session for the young adult and 1 session for the social coach)
- Please Note: Teens and young adults must be motivated and willing to participate
what do the lessons cover?
Teens and young adults will learn social skills and strategies that actually work, including
- how to start and maintain conversations
- communicating electronically (texting, emails, etc.)
- conflict resolution and how to disagree
- how to use humor appropriately
- how to handle bullying and teasing
- organizing get-togethers with friends
- dating skills
- strategies for handling dating pressure
